Abortion is essential health care and a human right!
As Canada’s Planned Parenthood, Action Canada has been at the forefront of the fight for abortion rights for over fifty years. Through our frontline services and advocacy work, we work to protect every person’s bodily autonomy, health, and rights in Canada and around the world.
The 2022 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to repeal Roe v. Wade ended the protection of abortion as a federally protected right in the United States after 50 years. This is part of a backlash against sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) that is happening all over the world.
When human rights are under attack, not everyone is impacted the same way. Some people will have the money needed to travel to get to a clinic where abortion will be available. Many won't. Access gets even harder for those who don't have citizenship, who experience racism in the health care system, or who get mistreated because of their gender identity or their sexuality.
That’s why we must work together to protect and advance everyone's right to have an abortion in Canada and all over the world. Building solidarity across movements and issues is how we make sure no one is left behind.
Anti-choice and anti-human rights movements everywhere are putting us all at risk and we must unite to defend and protect our rights. Abortion is one frontline in attacks against women, 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, migrants, youth, poor folks, people living with disabilities, and Black, Indigenous, and people of colour. Restricting or denying abortion access has always disproportionately impacted the most marginalized. We will leave no one behind.
For over fifty years, Action Canada alongside feminist activists and allies has worked relentlessly to change laws, policies, and how we talk about sexual and reproductive rights. With the support of hundreds of organizations and supporters like you, we will keep fighting.
