National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Violence Against Women

This December 6th, on the National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Violence Against Women, Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights remembers the 14 lives taken and many more impacted by the Ecole Polytechnique massacre in 1989. We also stand with victims and survivors of gender-based violence everywhere, and acknowledge that gender-based violence continues to impact women – disproportionately trans women, racialized women, and Indigenous women – and re-commit ourselves to the elimination of gender-based violence. On today’s National Day of Action, we also mourn the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people and their families and communities. As Canada is in the midst of a national inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, we call upon the Government of Canada, as well as federal, provincial and municipal police forces, to be held accountable in moving towards justice and ending gender-based violence.
