Every February, people in Canada are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the achievements, resilience, excellence and legacy of Black Canadians, past and present.
At Action Canada, our focus is on what creates the freedom to make and act on decisions that protect and enhance health and well-being for people, their families and their communitiesand we can’t talk about sexual and reproductive health and rights, including abortion access, without that context.
The theory, practice and strategy of Reproductive Justice are guiding principles in how we go about our work. We are infinitely grateful for the leadership of Black activists, agitators, artists, educators, scholars, and Black-led organizations working towards social justice as well as to all visionary people and organizations like the Native Youth Sexual Health Network here in Canada and SisterSong in the United States who have changed the way we understand reproductive politics and social justice.
Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing posts on Facebook and Twitter that highlight the work of Black people who work toward realizing all people’s social, economic, and political power and their access to resources to ensure that everyone can make healthy decisions about their bodies, sexuality and reproduction for themselves, their families and their communities.
