Position Overview


We are seeking a dynamic Marketing and Communications Officer to join our team either in Ottawa or remotely within Ontario. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Fund Development, you will collaborate closely to ensure our marketing and campaign efforts align with organizational branding, fundraising, and advocacy objectives.

Who You Are


You are a skilled digital marketing professional with a passion for advancing social and reproductive health and rights. You excel in crafting and executing social media and email marketing strategies, optimizing paid media campaigns, and analyzing trends to maximize audience engagement across platforms. You are a natural collaborator, curious, and willing to take risks.  Your experience in nonprofit communications equips you to support comprehensive communication and marketing campaigns, contributing to our organizational goals and growth.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute creative digital and social media ad campaigns targeting Action Canada's diverse audiences;
  • Manage and optimize meta and Google ads, monitor social media trends, and analyze campaign performance metrics;
  • Write, edit, and curate content for the website, social media channels, and newsletter platforms as needed;
  • Support the creation and distribution of newsletters and promotional materials;
  • Contribute to strategic planning for audience engagement and brand promotion;
  • Stay updated on sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) issues, digital marketing trends, and best practices;
  • Collaborate with other Action Canada teams as a subject-matter expert;
  • Supports the Policy & Advocacy team in fulfilling team reporting duties;
  • Regularly reports verbally and in writing to the Director of Policy & Advocacy;
  • Attends Action Canada’s general team staff meetings;
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Employer.

Key Accountabilities

  • Build and implement paid media ads
  • Coordinate digital marketing and communications strategies in collaboration with internal teams;
  • Key collaborator and contributor in the communications team
  • Set measurable goals for paid media campaigns, track campaign performance, and report on KPIs to enhance digital outreach effectiveness;
  • Write and Design content/ads
  • Provide strategic advice on integrated communications plans and content development;
  • Collaborate with advocacy and policy teams to promote Action Canada’s initiatives effectively;
  • Manage project communication budgets and support special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, or related fields;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ marketing experience, preferably in nonprofit or civil society sectors;
  • Strong writing, designing, editing, and digital communications skills;
  • Proficiency in web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Insights);
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and online conferencing tools;
  • Knowledge of Drupal/WordPress and design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset;
  • Knowledge, understanding, and commitment to reproductive rights and a person’s right to determine their own reproductive choices, anti-racism and anti-oppression, feminist practice, and the mission and values of Action Canada;
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both in a self-directed manner and collaboratively with other staff and stakeholders in a remote environment;
  • Flexible and adaptive, able to respond quickly and effectively to changing circumstances;
  • Fluency in French (oral and written) is an asset.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Hours, Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), salaried position. This is a unionized position in CUPE Local 2722-05. Salary for this position is $63,945 per annum. This position is classified as Permanent within the bargaining unit. However, funding is only confirmed until March 31, 2026. The intention is that the position will continue past that date, pending renewed funding.

Action Canada also provides a generous benefits program, including extended health and dental benefits, leave allowances, and RRSP contributions.

Location 

Action Canada's offices are based in Ottawa, Ontario. Candidates for this position may be based in Ottawa (and may work either from the office or from a remote work location, e.g. home office) or elsewhere in Ontario. All candidates must be legally able to work in Canada.

Hiring Process and Timeline

Applications will be accepted until Thursday, August 1, 2024. Interviews will be held the weeks of August 5 and 12, with a start date of late August/early September, depending on the successful candidate’s availability.

 

The hiring process will include a one-hour panel interview to take place over video conference (Zoom) and a short skills-based test. Candidates will be asked to provide three references, and those moving to the next round will have references checked.
