Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights is excited to announce the winners of the 2024 The Helen & Fred Bentley Awards for Excellence of Achievement. This year we are recognizing the work of: Sexual Health Options, Resources, and Education Centre (SHORE) and Saskatoon Sexual Health.
This year’s recipients continue in the great tradition of previous winners, in working to ensure that sexual and reproductive health services are available to all. We are thankful to have these organizations as part of our Associates Network.
Here’s more about this year’s winning programs, and the innovative and creative ways they are working to connect with people in their communities:
- SHORE Centre: For over 50 years SHORE Centre has been a trusted source for accurate sexual health education and confidential pregnancy options support. Serving Southwestern Ontario, SHORE operates clinical and education programs, reaching over 11,000 individuals each year. They are being awarded for their Contraception Education and Access Program. This program provides education and resources to help people access contraceptive and reproductive healthcare. In 2019 they created the Access Fund, which offers different financial supports to cover the costs of contraception. Their goal is to ensure that their programming and services aren’t just informative, but also truly accessible and meaningful for their communities.
- Saskatoon Sexual Health: Saskatoon Sexual Health provides sexual and reproductive health services in Saskatoon and area with an emphasis on safe, inclusive, empowering clinical care and education. They are being awarded this year for their Patient Health Navigator Program. This program provides essential navigational, educational, and emotional support to clients experiencing unplanned pregnancies. Established to address a critical gap in reproductive health services, this program has been operational for 2 years, consistently serving over 200 individuals annually. Their proactive and collaborative approach exemplifies excellence in community health, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive care for all.
